I’ve Got Plenty To Be Thankful For

When I was a teenager my grandparents moved a few hours away to their cottage

They had an old organ in their living room, and now that I look back, I don't think either of them ever knew how to play it!  My Grandma had a few books of sheet music though, and I would find myself sitting at the organ, plucking away as I could.  One of those books was from the old Holiday Inn movie soundtrack.

I caught myself humming "I've Got Plenty To Be Thankful" by Bing Crosby earlier this week, and it dawned on me where I heard it initially. That song brings back so many great memories of Thanksgiving at the cottage.  My grandparents are with Jesus now, but their legacy of love and gratitude lives on.

I like to think of myself as a grateful person, but I've actually got a lot of things in my life right now that I'm NOT thankful for

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33

There are a lot of "troubles" I would love to hand off in my life right now. As always, I have the option of focusing on the negative instead of celebrating the positive.  I'm making the choice to have hope because I know God is bigger than all of it.  If it's a guarantee that I will continue to have problems, I'm going to figure out how to live in peace and joy in the midst of them.

I know this song will be stuck in my head this weekend as I celebrate Thanksgiving with my family, and it's going to make me smile every time I remember it
